Medical Sales Resume Reflection

“Mirror mirror on the wall….who has the fairest Resume of them all?”

What is your resume telling you?  More importantly what is your resume reflecting to Medical Sales Recruiters and potential Medical Sales employers?  If your self assessment is different than theirs, then you have a problem!  A resume is a mirror of our career decisions starting from college to the present.  It truly is a reflection of how we have performed within our career, as well as the business and personal decisions that have brought us to where we are today.  It is also a reflection or measurement of your perseverance, stamina and success!  What does your resume reflect? Build a Medical Sales Resume that can be found!

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

A Resume today needs to be built in a “web data base” friendly way so it can be found by recruiters or Human Resources when sorting through those massive resume data bases!  I continually sort through resume coaching books and Google around trying to find a good reference for our Job Seekers to go to as they build their resumes.  Well, I never found one, so I decided to make it my topic on this posting.  If someone out there has a good source for what I am about to say, please share it with us!  If you want your resume to be found by a recruiter, I am about to reveal our secrets!

Cover Letter to Resume a thing of the past?

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

Wagon   Are you using a thing of the past to find a job?  I would like to tell you a secret.  Remember the day when you had to artfully craft a well written cover letter and attach to your paper resume?  If you remember that day, it was probably before 1995!  Simply put, recruiters (and most medical sales managers) never open a cover letter electronically.  Why, who cares about a cover letter, we want to get to the meat of your resume; do you have the experience we are looking for?….let’s get past the fluff.  Afterall, most sales managers and recruiters are bottom line people, we go to the bottom line.  We go straight to the resume. Traditional Resume IS the best way to go!

Steering Wheel realWhere’s my steering wheel?

We see hundreds of resumes a day and we see many different varieties of resume formatting.  I often share with Job Seekers that a resume should have classic construction, put everything where we expect to see it.  You know, your name at the top, your address, phone number and yes an e-mail underneath it and etc. (we can have a separate detailed discussion on what a classic resume looks like).

The one thing to remember is that most recruiters are looking at literally hundreds of resume’s a day and each resume gets a quick look and a quick decision as to whether the resume meets minimum requirements.  If you make it difficult for a recruiter to get to the meat of your qualifications, they more than likely move off your resume and unto the next one.  Think of it like this;  imagine getting into a rental car and someone put your steering wheel in the back seat and your gas peddle on the passengers side, are you going to take the time to figure out how to drive the car and make it work for you, or are you simply going to get out and pick another vehicle that has everything where you are accustomed to finding it?  Resume’s work the same way with recruiters, format your information and qualifications where we can easily see if you have the minimum requirements of the job description and we will call you!  Help us find your steering wheel so we don’t drive on by to the next resume! by Linda Hertz
